Valentin Vacherot came from a set down to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 and reach the Tokyo ATP 500 quarter-finals.
Valentin Vacherot needed almost three hours to see off Stefanos Tsitsipas on Friday, battling back from a set down to win 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 and book his place in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 event in Tokyo.
The Monégasque, seeded eighth and currently ranked 18th in the world, dropped the opening set to the former world number three before steadying himself in a tense second-set tie-break. He then closed out the decider to set up a last-eight meeting with a place in the semi-finals on the line.
Vacherot's run in Tokyo continues a strong season for the Monaco number one, whose rise up the rankings has made him the Principality's most prominent presence on the ATP Tour. For tennis followers in Monaco, where the player trains and is based, the result is being watched closely as he pushes for a deeper run at one of the tour's bigger autumn events.
