Tennis player Valentin Vacherot granted Monegasque nationality

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Valentin Vacherot has officially become a Monegasque national following publication of the decision in the Journal Officiel this Friday.

Valentin Vacherot, the tennis player who has represented the Principality on the ATP tour, has been granted Monegasque nationality, according to a notice published in the Journal Officiel this Friday.

The move formalises a status Vacherot has effectively held for some time as a Monaco-based competitor, and it means he can now officially represent the Principality in international competition under its flag rather than through residency alone.

For Monaco's sporting community, the naturalisation is significant given the Principality's limited pool of nationals competing at the top level of any sport. It also reinforces the country's broader push to see more homegrown or naturalised athletes carry the Monegasque colours on the global stage, from the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters to Davis Cup fixtures.
