A 29-year-old Swiss man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for assaulting his partner at the Fairmont Monte Carlo during the Monaco Yacht Show.

Monaco's criminal court sentenced a 29-year-old Swiss national to 16 months in prison on Friday, October 2, after he was found guilty of aggravated violence against his partner. The assault took place on September 22 at the Fairmont Monte Carlo, following an evening the couple had spent at Sass' Café in the port area.

The case was heard during a period when the Principality was hosting the Monaco Yacht Show, one of the busiest weeks of the autumn calendar for hotels and restaurants along the harbour. Court proceedings established that the attack occurred inside the hotel after the pair had returned from their night out.

The sentencing underscores the seriousness with which Monaco's judicial system treats cases of domestic violence, regardless of the status or nationality of those involved. For residents and visitors alike, the case serves as a reminder that the Principality's reputation for safety rests on consistent enforcement, even amid its highest-profile events.
