Monaco's Criminal Court handed down a nine-month prison term on Monday 21 September to a 22-year-old scooter rider who injured a police officer while attempting to evade a routine stop in Monte-Carlo three days earlier. Six months of the sentence were suspended, leaving the defendant to serve three months.
The incident unfolded shortly after 14:00 on 18 September when officers attempted to pull over the rider. Rather than comply, he accelerated away, striking an officer during the pursuit. When apprehended, he was found to be carrying cannabis and riding without insurance, compounding the charges he faced before the court.
