Prince Albert visits Alpes-Maritimes villages with Princely ties

Prince Albert II travelled to Aiglun and Puget-Théniers on 21 September to reinforce historic links between the Principality and the Alpes-Maritimes hinterland.
On 21 September, Prince Albert II made a visit to two villages in the Alpes-Maritimes hinterland, Aiglun and Puget-Théniers, both of which carry longstanding connections to the Princely Family and to Monaco.
In Aiglun, the Sovereign visited the Château d'Aiglun, a troglodyte fortress built directly into the rock face that stands as one of the more unusual historic structures in the region. The visit underlined the cultural and historical bonds that link Monaco to the communities of its French hinterland, beyond the immediate border of the Principality.
Puget-Théniers, a market town on the Var river roughly 60 kilometres north of Nice, also holds ties to Monaco's dynastic history. The Sovereign's presence in both villages reflects a continuing effort by the Palace to maintain and celebrate those connections with the wider region.
