Palace guard marks summer with uniform changeover

By Laurent Duval, MonacoViews Editorial

The Prince's Carabiniers switched to their summer dress during the 11:55am changing of the guard at the Prince's Palace on Monday, 4th May.

At 11:55am on Monday, 4th May, the changing of the guard at the Prince's Palace carried an added significance as the Carabiniers du Prince made their seasonal transition from winter to summer uniform. The ritual, observed each year as the warmer months arrive, is one of the small but telling markers of life in Monaco that residents around the Palace Square have come to recognise.

The tradition reflects the Carabiniers' adherence to a military calendar that has remained largely unchanged across generations. For those living in or visiting the old town, the daily guard change is already a fixture of Monaco-Ville life, but the bi-annual uniform changeover gives it a particular ceremonial weight that sets it apart from the routine.
