Monaco Telecom promotes free apps to block scam calls

The Princely Government and Monaco Telecom are urging residents to install free apps that identify and block unwanted calls as phone scams persist.
Residents plagued by automated sales calls and phone scams now have an official steer from the Princely Government and Monaco Telecom towards two free applications, Saracroche and Blocall, both available on iOS and Android.
Developed in France, the apps work by cross-referencing incoming numbers against databases of reported nuisance and fraudulent callers, flagging or automatically blocking suspect calls before they reach the handset. Monaco Telecom customers are being encouraged to download either app directly, with no subscription cost involved.
The push comes amid continued reports of telephone solicitation and scam attempts targeting mobile users in the Principality, a problem not unique to Monaco but one that has prompted local authorities to act on consumer protection grounds. For residents who have grown weary of unknown numbers interrupting their day, the apps offer a straightforward, no-cost line of defence.
