Monaco federation backs casting sport as a discipline in its own right

The Fédération Monégasque de Pêches Sportives wants to develop competitive casting in the Principality, with plans for a dedicated section.
Casting sport strips fishing down to its purest technical element: the throw. No boat, no water, no fish. Athletes cast weighted lures or flies at target rings laid on a flat surface, competing for accuracy and distance. The discipline is practised on sports fields, in gymnasia and on athletics tracks across Europe, and has its own world championship circuit.
The Fédération Monégasque de Pêches Sportives (FMPS) is now pushing to bring the sport to Monaco in a structured way, with the long-term goal of forming a dedicated casting section within the federation. The move would give the Principality a competitive foothold in a niche but growing sport that shares none of the logistical demands of sea or freshwater fishing.
For a small nation where sporting federations punch well above their weight internationally, casting offers a realistic pathway to representation at European and world level. The FMPS has not yet confirmed a timeline or venue for initial sessions, but the ambition is clear: to move casting from a training curiosity to a recognised Monaco sport in its own right.
