Monaco draw Man City in Champions League last 16

By Laurent Duval, MonacoViews Editorial

AS Monaco have been drawn against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, with Vice-President Vadim Vasilyev acknowledging City will be considered favourites.

The Stade Louis II will have a formidable opponent to contend with after AS Monaco were paired with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw. The two clubs were the first names pulled from the hat, with Monaco entering from the group winners' pot and City from the runners-up positions.

Vadim Vasilyev, Monaco's Vice-President, has been candid in his assessment of the tie, accepting that the English club will be widely regarded as the team to beat when the two legs are played. It is the kind of draw that captures attention well beyond the Principality, pitting one of Europe's wealthiest clubs against a Monaco side that has impressed throughout the group stage.

For supporters who make the short walk down to Fontvieille on match nights, the prospect of hosting a City squad packed with international talent will make this among the most anticipated European fixtures the club has staged in recent years.
