Mashburn takeover bid advances as Roca Team files CNOSF appeal

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

AS Monaco Basket has formally lodged a CNOSF appeal while talks between former NBA star Jamal Mashburn and the Monaco government over a club buyout reach a critical stage.

AS Monaco Basket took a significant procedural step on Wednesday evening, officially filing for arbitration before the CNOSF, the French national Olympic and sports committee, as the club fights for its survival following its exclusion from the Pro A league.

At the same time, negotiations between the Monaco government and Jamal Mashburn, the former NBA forward who has emerged as the leading candidate to take over the club, are reported to have made substantial progress. The two tracks, the legal appeal and the ownership discussions, are now running in parallel, giving the triple French champions a more solid footing than they have had at any point since the crisis broke.

For residents and supporters who have followed Roca Team basketball at Salle Gaston Médecin over the years, the dual development represents the clearest sign yet that the club may avoid dissolution. A successful CNOSF ruling combined with a completed Mashburn purchase would be needed to secure a return to top-flight competition, and neither outcome is guaranteed. The coming weeks will be decisive.
