Langellotti eyes Vuelta Grand Départ from Monaco on Aug 22

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Monégasque professional cyclist Victor Langellotti has joined Kazakh outfit XDS-Astana and hopes to race the Vuelta a España, which starts in Monaco on 22 August 2026.

Victor Langellotti, Monaco's national cycling champion, signed with XDS-Astana on 1 August and is targeting a place in the squad for the Vuelta a España, whose Grand Départ leaves the Principality on 22 August. Racing the opening stage in the red-and-white national champion's jersey, on roads he knows from home, is the goal he has set himself after just days with his new team.

The Vuelta's Monaco start is already drawing significant attention across the cycling world, and Langellotti is acutely aware of what it would mean to be in the peloton when it rolls out. His first competitive outing under the XDS-Astana banner came shortly after his transfer was confirmed, giving team management an early look at the 25-year-old before final Vuelta selections are made.

For residents along the planned route, the Grand Départ will bring road closures and large crowds to parts of the Principality in the days around 22 August. Full traffic and access details are expected from the Direction de la Sûreté Publique closer to the event.
