Driver on drugs injures Monaco officer in flight from police

A 22-year-old from Roquebrune was sentenced to nine months in prison, six suspended, after refusing to stop for police and injuring an officer while under the influence of drugs.
A young motorist from Roquebrune-Cap-Martin appeared before Monaco's court in immediate proceedings after a drug-impaired scooter ride through the Principality ended with a police officer injured during the pursuit. The 22-year-old refused to comply with officers' instructions and fled, striking one of them in the process.
The court handed down a sentence of nine months in custody, with six months suspended. The relatively lenient outcome is notable given that the defendant already carried prior convictions for road-related offences, suggesting the three months of effective detention was considered the minimum proportionate response.
The case is a reminder that Monaco's small road network and heavy police presence make dangerous driving particularly consequential. Drug-driving prosecutions here routinely proceed via immediate appearance, meaning offenders face a judge within days rather than months.
