Yacht Club de Monaco's Tuiga wins at Saint-Tropez regatta

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Pierre Casiraghi skippered Tuiga to victory in the Tradition category at the 28th Voiles de Saint-Tropez, which concluded on 4 October.

Tuiga, the flagship classic yacht of the Yacht Club de Monaco, has taken the top spot in the Tradition category at this year's Voiles de Saint-Tropez, one of the most watched events on the classic sailing calendar. The regatta, now in its 28th edition, wrapped up on Sunday with Monegasque skipper Pierre Casiraghi at the helm of the 15-metre gaff cutter built in 1909.

Casiraghi described the physical demands of racing the vintage yacht against modern rivals, saying the crew needed four strong hands positioned aft simply to generate enough power to handle Tuiga in shifting winds. The win adds another trophy to a vessel that has become a symbol of Monaco's maritime heritage since the Yacht Club acquired and restored it in the early 1990s.

For the Yacht Club de Monaco, based at the Quai Louis II marina, the victory reinforces the club's standing in international classic yacht racing, a scene where provenance and restoration quality matter as much as performance on the water. Tuiga regularly represents Monaco at events across the Mediterranean, and this latest result in Saint-Tropez gives the club fresh momentum heading into next season's circuit of vintage regattas.
