Why the Nazinho-Idumbo partnership is clicking for AS Monaco

The left-flank combination of Flavio Nazinho and Stanis Idumbo has been one of AS Monaco's bright spots this season, though Idumbo's fitness is in doubt ahead of Friday's home match against Lens.
Filipe Luis has shown a clear preference for pairing Flavio Nazinho and Stanis Idumbo on the left flank, and through the opening weeks of the 2026-27 season that trust appears well-placed. The two players have developed a working relationship built on complementary profiles and an understanding of each other's movement that has made Monaco difficult to play through on that side.
The timing of any potential Idumbo absence is therefore awkward. The midfielder is carrying a knock that puts his availability in doubt for Friday's Ligue 1 fixture at the Stade Louis-II against Lens on 18 September. For a partnership that thrives on familiarity, losing one half of it at home against a side capable of punishing defensive gaps would be a meaningful setback.
Nazinho, meanwhile, has grown in confidence as the season has progressed, his attacking instincts combining with Idumbo's positional discipline to give Monaco a coherent left side. Whether Luis finds a like-for-like replacement or adjusts his shape will be one of the key tactical questions heading into the weekend.
