Monegasque Valentin Vacherot beat Argentina's Mariano Navone 6-3, 7-6(4) at the Swiss Indoors Basel to reach the second round.
Valentin Vacherot came through a tense opening-round test at the Swiss Indoors Basel on Monday, beating Argentina's Mariano Navone 6-3, 7-6(4) in just under two hours to reach the last 16.
The Monegasque dropped the first three games of the second set before rallying to force a tie-break, which he closed out to seal the win. It is another step forward in a breakthrough season for Vacherot, who has steadily climbed the rankings and continues to fly the flag for Monaco on the ATP Tour.
His next opponent in Basel has yet to be confirmed, but the result keeps alive hopes of a deep run at one of the European indoor season's higher-profile stops.
