SBM takes disciplinary action over Le Grill alcohol incident

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Société des Bains de Mer has launched disciplinary proceedings against staff at Le Grill, the Hôtel de Paris restaurant, after employees were found drinking alcohol from the venue's stock during service.

Société des Bains de Mer has confirmed that disciplinary procedures are underway against several employees of Le Grill, one of the restaurants within the Hôtel de Paris on Place du Casino. The group, which oversees much of Monaco's grand hospitality sector, said the staff members had consumed alcohol taken from the restaurant's own stock while on duty and during service hours.

The announcement came directly from SBM management on Monday, a rare instance of the group addressing internal conduct issues in public terms. No further details have been released on the number of employees involved or the nature of the sanctions being considered.

Le Grill holds a Michelin star and sits atop the Hôtel de Paris, with views over the harbour and the Rock, making it one of the most visible dining rooms in the Principality's luxury hospitality scene. For an establishment of this standing, any lapse in conduct carries reputational weight well beyond the kitchen, and SBM's decision to speak publicly suggests the group is keen to be seen managing the matter firmly.
