Residents describe blast that shook Place des Moulins

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

A criminal explosion near Place des Moulins on Monday evening forced residents from their homes and prompted a full police cordon of the surrounding streets.

Shortly before 9pm on Monday 29 June, an explosion described by witnesses as a criminal act rocked the area around Place des Moulins in the Moneghetti district. Residents reported violent shaking across multiple buildings, with several saying they believed their lives were at risk at the moment of the blast.

In the hours that followed, police sealed off the entire neighbourhood, leaving many residents stranded on the street after evacuating their apartments rapidly. With no clear indication of when they would be allowed back inside, those displaced gathered outside the cordon with little information from authorities.

The incident caused significant disruption to one of Monaco's more densely residential quarters, where apartment buildings sit close together on steep streets above the port. The nature of the criminal act and any confirmed injuries or structural damage had not been formally disclosed at the time of publication, with an investigation understood to be under way.
