Prince Albert II inaugurated a college named in his honour at Akamasoa during the opening leg of an official visit to Madagascar.
Prince Albert II landed in Madagascar on Friday morning for the first stop of an official visit to the African continent, travelling directly to Akamasoa to inaugurate a new college bearing his name. The Sovereign was welcomed on arrival as part of a programme that marks one of the more significant overseas engagements on his calendar this year.
Akamasoa is home to the humanitarian project founded by Father Pedro Opeka, which has worked for decades to house and educate families living in extreme poverty on the outskirts of Antananarivo. Monaco has maintained long-standing ties to the initiative through royal visits and support channelled via Monegasque charitable foundations, making the naming of the new college a recognition of that relationship rather than a one-off gesture.
For Monaco, the visit reinforces the Principality's profile in international development and education funding, areas the Sovereign has prioritised throughout his reign. Further engagements are expected as the African tour continues beyond this opening stop.
