Place d'Armes market returns after three-week Grand Prix absence

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Traders and shoppers reunited at Place d'Armes on 17 June after three weeks relocated to Espace Léo-Ferré during the Monaco Grand Prix.

Place d'Armes came back to life on Wednesday 17 June as the Condamine market resumed its usual position following a three-week absence enforced by Grand Prix preparations. Traders and their regulars had been displaced to Espace Léo-Ferré since late May, a relocation that has become a familiar if unwelcome fixture in the calendar for those who depend on the market week to week.

The return was warmly received on both sides of the stalls. While the Léo-Ferré site served its purpose, traders were clear that no temporary arrangement replicates the atmosphere of the original square. For many residents of La Condamine and the surrounding quartiers, the market is less an amenity than a routine - the kind that three weeks away makes you notice sharply.

The Grand Prix relocation affects the market every year, but the 2026 edition ran to a full three weeks, making the homecoming feel more significant than usual. With summer now properly under way, Place d'Armes settles back into its rhythm.
