A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle on Quai Jean-Charles Rey, close to the Port of Fontvieille, at around 8 p.m. on Sunday 7 June. The victim, a 55-year-old Austrian national, was taken to hospital and remained there as of the date of reporting.
The incident took place as the Principality was winding down from Grand Prix weekend, a period when visitor numbers in Monaco are at their peak and traffic patterns around the port area are noticeably heavier than usual. Quai Jean-Charles Rey, which runs along the southern edge of Fontvieille's working harbour, carries a steady flow of vehicles and is a regular route for both residents and visitors moving between districts.
No further details about the circumstances of the collision or the condition of the driver involved have been confirmed. Residents and those familiar with the Fontvieille waterfront are advised to exercise particular caution on foot along the quayside, where pavement space can be limited.
