Luxury watch thefts targeted GP crowds in Monaco

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Five thefts and attempted thefts of luxury watches were recorded during the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, with one suspect convicted and a €10,000 Rolex recovered.

The Monaco Grand Prix weekend brought more than racing drama this year, with police registering five luxury watch thefts or attempted thefts across the Principality during the event. The incidents follow a pattern seen at high-profile gatherings where large, affluent crowds create cover for opportunistic thieves targeting high-value wristwear.

One suspect has already been convicted in connection with the offences, and a Rolex valued at €10,000 has been recovered. Investigations into the remaining cases are continuing, with police working to identify further suspects.

For residents and visitors, the incidents are a reminder that the GP weekend, for all its spectacle, draws criminals alongside the crowds. Those attending major events in the Principality are advised to exercise particular caution with visible luxury items in busy public areas around Port Hercule and the circuit perimeter.
