New Darse Sud platform to serve 2027 Grand Prix

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Construction has started on a 2,500-square-metre platform at Darse Sud, opposite La Rascasse, to expand capacity for the Formula 1 Grand Prix and other major events.

Work is now underway in the port's Darse Sud area, directly opposite La Rascasse, on a new 2,500-square-metre platform designed to give organisers more room during the Grand Prix and other large-scale events held on the harbour. The Princely Government has confirmed the structure is intended to be operational in time for the 2027 Formula 1 race, giving contractors a tight but defined window to complete the build.

For residents and berth holders around Quai Antoine 1er and the harbour front, the works will mean a period of disruption as construction equipment and barges occupy part of the port zone. The extra platform space is expected to ease the perennial squeeze on hospitality structures, grandstands and technical areas that has characterised recent editions of the race, where every metre of quayside is contested.

The project fits into a broader pattern of incremental upgrades to Monaco's port infrastructure, which must simultaneously serve as a working marina, a cruise and superyacht stopover, and the stage for one of the most logistically complex events on the global sporting calendar. With the 2027 deadline now public, property owners and businesses operating near Darse Sud can expect further details on phasing and access restrictions as the Grand Prix approaches.
