New armwrestling club draws young athletes in Monaco

The Monaco Armwrestling Club, founded this summer, now meets every Saturday to train in competitive arm wrestling, a sport its members say is far more technical than it looks.
Since the summer, a new association has quietly joined Monaco's sporting scene. The Monaco Armwrestling Club gathers each Saturday inside a business centre in the Principality, where members train in competitive arm wrestling, a discipline still little known locally despite its growing following elsewhere.
The young athletes involved are keen to shift public perception of the sport. "People have this image of it being a brutish sport, when it's actually extremely technical," one member explained, pointing to the strategy, grip work and body positioning that separate serious competitors from casual arm wrestlers at a bar.
For now, the club operates informally, relying on word of mouth and a shared passion to bring new members through the door. Organisers hope that regular sessions and a growing roster will eventually allow Monaco to field competitors in regional and national arm wrestling tournaments, giving the Principality a presence in a sport it has never previously been associated with.
