Motorcyclist dies in collision with lorry in Monaco tunnel

A man in his fifties died on Monday evening after his motorcycle collided with a lorry inside the A500 tunnel beneath Monaco.
The collision happened at around 6.30pm this Monday inside the A500 tunnel, the road link that runs beneath the principality connecting France to Monaco. A motorcyclist in his fifties was killed after his bike collided with a lorry travelling through the tunnel.
Emergency services closed the tunnel to attend the scene, causing significant delays for drivers using the A500 during the evening rush hour. Police have not yet confirmed the exact circumstances that led to the collision, and an investigation into the accident is under way.
The tunnel is one of the busiest stretches of road serving Monaco, used daily by residents and commuters travelling between France and the principality, and any closure there tends to have a knock-on effect on surrounding routes including the Moyenne Corniche.
