Monaco's over-65s reach 27.3% as ageing strategy unfolds

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Monaco's government has tracked population ageing as a public health priority since 2005, with over-65s now making up 27.3% of residents.

Monaco's demographic profile continues to shift, with the latest 2025 figures showing 27.3% of the resident population now aged over 65. The government began treating this trend as a public health priority back in 2005, building long-term planning into its health strategy well before the current wave of ageing became visible on the ground.

For residents and families across the Principality, the figures matter beyond statistics. Monaco's healthcare system, housing stock and social services all face growing demand from an older population, and government planning has been structured around five strategic areas aimed at addressing this shift.

What remains to be seen is how these strategic priorities translate into concrete measures, from medical infrastructure to home care provision and age-friendly housing. With nearly three in ten residents now over 65, the policy choices made in Monaco over the coming years will shape daily life for a significant share of the population.
