Monaco to issue all new mobile numbers under +377

From 1 October 2026, every new mobile number issued in Monaco will carry the +377 code, ending shared use of French prefixes.
From 1 October, anyone taking out a new mobile contract in Monaco will be given a number under the Principality's own +377 code, rather than a French prefix shared with operators across the border. The change follows new bilateral protocols agreed between the Prince's Government's Directorate of Digital Platforms and Resources and the French telecommunications authorities, and marks another step in Monaco's long push for full sovereignty over its own numbering system.
For residents and businesses, the practical impact will be gradual. Existing numbers issued under French prefixes are not being withdrawn or reassigned, so current subscribers will notice no change to their own line. The shift applies only to new activations from operators serving the Principality, meaning the +377 code will become steadily more common in daily use as contracts are renewed or new lines opened.
The move sits alongside other efforts by the Directorate of Digital Platforms and Resources to bring Monaco's telecoms infrastructure fully under national control, following years in which mobile numbering was managed jointly with France. Officials have not given a timeline for when all Monaco numbers might eventually carry the +377 code, but the October change is being presented as a firm milestone rather than a symbolic gesture.
