The Principality has formally launched its presidency of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers in Strasbourg, marking a significant moment in Monaco's diplomatic calendar.
Monaco has assumed the rotating presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, with the handover ceremony taking place in Strasbourg on Tuesday. The launch day brought a series of formal and cultural events centred on the Principality, beginning with a bilateral meeting between Monaco's representatives and the Secretary General of the organisation.
The cultural dimension of the launch was notable. Stella Almondo, a young Monégasque pianist, performed in the foyer of the Council of Europe building, while the ensemble La Palladienne played on the Place de la Mairie de Strasbourg. A Strasbourg tram was also unveiled in the colours of Monaco's presidency, giving the Principality a visible presence across the French city for the duration of the term.
The Committee of Ministers is the Council of Europe's decision-making body, bringing together the foreign ministers of its 46 member states. Monaco's presidency places the Principality at the centre of pan-European human rights, democratic governance and rule-of-law discussions for the coming months, a responsibility that carries weight well beyond its size.
