Monaco set to host historic Vuelta Grand Départ on 22 August

For the first time in the race's history, La Vuelta 2026 will roll out of Monaco on Saturday 22 August at 16:17.
On Saturday 22 August at 16:17, the Principality will make cycling history as La Vuelta 2026 departs from Monaco, marking the first time the Spanish Grand Tour has ever launched from the city-state. The occasion puts Monaco alongside a very short list of locations that have hosted Grand Départs for all three of cycling's major stage races.
Christian Tornatore, serving as commissaire général of the Grand Départ, has been coordinating the logistics of staging a WorldTour event inside one of the world's most compact territories. The practical challenges are considerable: Monaco's narrow streets, dense residential fabric and permanent traffic pressures make a rolling start of this scale a significant operational undertaking for municipal and event teams alike.
Residents and visitors in the Principality should expect road closures and crowd management measures in the days surrounding 22 August, particularly along the ceremonial start route. The event is expected to draw large numbers of cycling fans to Monaco ahead of the peloton's departure into the surrounding region, giving local hospitality and retail a late-summer boost.
