Monaco rowers take silver at world coastal championships

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Monaco's men's coastal rowing crew won silver at the World Championships in Qingdao, with the Principality's leading female rower narrowly missing the podium.

Monaco's rowers delivered one of the Principality's strongest results of the season at the World Coastal Rowing Championships in Qingdao, China, where the men's crew claimed a silver medal. The result marks a rare appearance on the podium for Monegasque rowing at this level of international competition.

The Principality's leading female competitor, Gaia, came close to adding a second medal to the tally but finished just outside the podium places. Both results followed strong showings in the qualifying rounds, where the Monaco crews showed the form that carried them into medal contention in China.

For a sport that rarely makes headlines outside the rowing community in Monaco, the Qingdao result gives the Federation Monegasque d'Aviron a genuine marker of progress on the world stage, and a boost ahead of future international fixtures.
