A 38-year-old Monegasque was sentenced on 9 October to ten months in prison, nine suspended, for dragging his wife several metres with his car.
The Monaco correctional court handed down its ruling on Friday, two weeks after the incident that left the victim injured. The 38-year-old Monegasque man had been driving his vehicle when his wife, caught up in the middle of a bitter divorce, was dragged several metres along the road.
In court, the woman described the moment of the attack, telling judges "I saw myself flying." The couple's separation proceedings had reportedly been marked by escalating tension in the weeks before the incident.
The tribunal sentenced the man to ten months in prison, with nine months suspended, meaning he will serve the remaining month in custody. The case adds to a small but steady stream of domestic violence prosecutions heard before Monaco's courts in recent years, as the Principality's judiciary has taken an increasingly firm stance on such offences within the household.
