Monaco launches Pink October breast cancer screening drive

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The Centre Monégasque de Dépistage is writing to women aged 45 to 80 urging them to book a mammogram this Pink October.

The Département des Affaires Sociales et de la Santé has marked the start of Pink October by reminding residents that early detection remains the strongest defence against breast cancer. The month-long campaign, recognised across Europe, is used by Monaco's health authorities to push screening rates among women who may have delayed or skipped routine checks.

The Centre Monégasque de Dépistage is sending letters directly to female residents and social insurees of the Principality aged between 45 and 80, inviting them to arrange a mammogram. The recommendation is for screening every two years within that age bracket, a schedule health officials say catches most cases at a stage where treatment options are far less invasive.

Outside that routine, the department is urging women of any age to see a doctor promptly if they notice any change in their breast, whether a lump, skin alteration or unusual discharge. Officials stress that acting on such signs quickly, rather than waiting for the next scheduled screening, can make a material difference to outcomes.
