Monaco hosts Council of Europe sport ministers summit

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Monaco is hosting a Council of Europe conference bringing together sports ministers to discuss protecting children from violence and abuse in sport.

The Principality is hosting a Council of Europe conference bringing together Ministers responsible for Sport from member states, held as part of Monaco's current Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. Representatives from sporting organisations across Europe are also attending the gathering, which centres on the theme of making sport safer and healthier for children.

Discussions are focused on the prevention, detection and response to violence and abuse committed against children in sporting environments, a subject that has drawn growing attention from national federations and child protection bodies in recent years. The conference forms part of a broader programme of events Monaco is staging during its Presidency term, which has placed child welfare and safeguarding among its priority themes.

For residents, the summit underlines Monaco's growing role as a venue for international diplomatic and policy gatherings beyond its usual sporting and financial events. It also reflects the Principality's own investment in youth sport through clubs and federations based here, many of which will be following the outcomes of the ministerial talks closely.
