Monaco hosts 19th global sports ministers' conference

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène will address the 19th Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport held in the Principality.

The Principality opens its doors this week to the 19th Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport, with Prince Albert II delivering the opening address on the first morning. The ministerial discussions themselves will take place behind closed doors, bringing together government representatives from across the world to debate sport policy at the highest level.

Princess Charlène will introduce the afternoon session, a role that places her alongside her husband as the conference's two royal voices. Both are Olympians in their own right, Prince Albert having competed in bobsleigh at five Winter Games and Princess Charlène as a former South African swimmer, and their joint involvement allows them to speak directly to the power of sport in shaping physical activity, wellbeing and the development of young athletes.

Alongside the formal talks, a photographic exhibition has been organised to run in parallel with the conference, giving visitors and delegates a visual complement to the ministerial agenda. For Monaco, hosting a gathering of this scale reinforces the Principality's standing as a venue for international sport diplomacy, a role that sits comfortably alongside its reputation for major sporting events such as the Monaco Grand Prix and its Olympic-linked institutions.
