Monaco Grand Prix to introduce Sprint race from 2027

Automobile Club de Monaco president Michel Boéri has confirmed a Sprint race will be added to the 2027 Monaco Grand Prix, calling it a major financial opportunity for the Principality.
Michel Boéri, president of the Automobile Club de Monaco and currently seeking re-election to the role, has confirmed that the 2027 Monaco Grand Prix will include a Sprint race for the first time in the event's history. The addition marks a significant shift for a circuit that has long resisted format changes given the physical constraints of racing through the streets of Monte Carlo.
Boéri described the move as bringing an exceptional financial result into the club's coffers, pointing to the extra day of competitive track action as a direct driver of increased revenue. A Sprint weekend typically adds an additional qualifying and race session, translating into higher ticket sales, extended hospitality bookings and greater broadcasting income, all of which flow through the ACM and, by extension, the Monaco economy.
The decision reflects the broader pressure on classic Grand Prix fixtures to adapt to Formula 1's modern race-weekend structure, which has included Sprint formats at several other circuits in recent seasons. For Monaco, where the ACM has historically guarded the traditional format of the race closely, the shift signals a willingness to modernise even as the event retains its status as the sport's most prestigious fixture on the calendar.
Boéri's comments come as he campaigns for a new mandate at the helm of the ACM, an organisation that oversees not only the Grand Prix but also the Monte Carlo Rally and other motorsport activities tied to the Principality's identity.
