Monaco backs sport for peace at UN forum

By Laurent Duval, MonacoViews Editorial

Ambassador Isabelle Picco represented the Principality at a UN ECOSOC Youth Forum session focused on sport as a vehicle for peace and inclusion.

Isabelle Picco, Monaco's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, took part in a high-level discussion in New York tied to the ECOSOC Youth Forum. The session, titled "Fair Play for Peace", examined how sport can be used to counter division and promote inclusion on a global stage.

The Principality has long positioned itself as a advocate for dialogue through sport, and Picco's participation signals that this remains an active priority at the diplomatic level. For a small state with outsized influence in international forums, events like this are a key part of how Monaco projects its values beyond its borders.

The ECOSOC Youth Forum is one of the UN's principal gatherings for engaging young people on global development challenges, making the choice to address sport and peace in this context a deliberate nod to the next generation of policymakers and athletes alike.
