Monaco Athletics Festival brings high jump to Port Hercule

A new outdoor athletics event centred on the high jump drew crowds to Port Hercule this week, marking Monaco's first such competition outside the Herculis meeting.
Port Hercule hosted the Monaco Athletics Festival on Wednesday, bringing competitive high jump to a harbourside setting and giving spectators an unusually close view of the athletes in action. The event is the first athletics competition staged in the open streets of the Principality outside the long-established Herculis meeting, which traditionally takes place at the Stade Louis II.
The format is deliberately intimate. With athletes competing just metres from the crowd rather than on a conventional stadium track, spectators can follow warm-ups, approaches and conversations in a way that a tiered grandstand rarely allows. For Monaco residents and visitors, it offers a different kind of summer evening, combining competitive sport with the backdrop of the port.
The festival represents a modest but meaningful expansion of Monaco's athletics calendar, testing whether the Principality can support a second standalone track-and-field event alongside Herculis. If the public turnout on Wednesday is any guide, the appetite is there.
