Monaco and Monaco Telecom promote free anti-fraud call tools
By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial
The government and Monaco Telecom have highlighted free services that help residents block unwanted calls and avoid the early stages of phone fraud.
Repeated calls from unrecognised numbers have become a daily nuisance for many in Monaco, and officials now say some of these calls can be the opening move in a fraud attempt. The government, working with Monaco Telecom, has drawn attention to free tools already available to mobile line holders that can filter or block these calls before they reach a handset.
The measures are aimed squarely at residents and business owners who rely on their mobile lines for daily transactions, from property management to banking, and who are often targeted precisely because of Monaco's concentration of wealth. Monaco Telecom customers can activate call-filtering options directly through their account settings or by contacting customer service, with no additional charge.
Authorities are encouraging residents to treat unsolicited calls asking for personal or financial details with caution, regardless of how official the caller may sound, and to report suspicious numbers so patterns of fraud can be tracked more effectively across the Principality.
