Gasly restored to Monaco GP podium after successful appeal

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Pierre Gasly has been reinstated to third place at the Monaco Grand Prix after the FIA upheld Alpine's protest against two time penalties.

Pierre Gasly's Monaco Grand Prix weekend has ended on a very different note to how it briefly appeared. The Alpine driver crossed the line third on Sunday before stewards applied two penalties that dropped him to seventh, only for the FIA to overturn those penalties on Friday following a formal protest lodged by the team.

The ruling restores Gasly to the podium and hands Alpine a result that had seemed lost. For a race held on the streets of the Principality, where points and prestige carry particular weight for drivers and constructors alike, the reversal is significant. The FIA confirmed the decision on Friday, two days after race day.

The outcome will have implications for the constructors' standings, with Alpine reclaiming the points that accompany a podium finish. It also continues what has been a dramatic post-race period for the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, with the stewards' room proving as eventful as the circuit itself.
