Gasly restored to Monaco GP podium after FIA upholds Alpine appeal

Pierre Gasly has been reinstated to third place in the Monaco Grand Prix after the FIA ruled in favour of Alpine's appeal against two pit-lane speeding penalties.
Pierre Gasly has been handed back his Monaco Grand Prix podium five days after stewards stripped him of it. The Alpine driver had finished third on the roads of the Principality last Sunday before two pit-lane speed infringements dropped him to seventh in the provisional classification.
Alpine lodged a formal appeal with the FIA, and on Friday 12 June the governing body ruled that appeal admissible, restoring Gasly to third place on the final results sheet. As a direct consequence, Red Bull's Isack Hadjar, who had inherited third in the immediate aftermath, is reclassified fourth.
The decision will be welcomed by the many Monaco residents who lined the barriers of Avenue d'Ostende and the Tunnel last weekend. For Gasly, it converts what had briefly become a deeply frustrating afternoon into a podium finish at one of the calendar's most coveted venues.
