Flu and Covid jabs now available in Monaco pharmacies

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Monaco pharmacies can now administer flu and Covid-19 vaccines to anyone over 15 without underlying health conditions, provided they have a prescription.

Monaco's government is urging residents at risk to get vaccinated this autumn, with flu and Covid-19 jabs now available at pharmacies across the Principality. The campaign carries fresh significance this year: for the first time, anyone aged over 15 without comorbidities can be vaccinated directly at the pharmacy counter, rather than needing an appointment with a doctor or nurse.

The change removes a layer of bureaucracy for healthy adults and teenagers seeking protection ahead of winter. A prescription from a doctor is still required, but the actual injection can now be given on the spot by a pharmacist, a convenience likely to appeal to residents juggling busy schedules in Monte Carlo, La Condamine and Fontvieille.

Those with underlying health conditions, along with younger children, will continue to be directed towards their GP or paediatrician for vaccination, as the in-pharmacy service is reserved for lower-risk cases. The government's push reflects a broader effort to keep vaccination rates high in a Principality with an ageing population and a significant number of residents who split their time between Monaco and other countries during the colder months.
