Filipe Luis reviews Monaco friendly win, Fati returns

AS Monaco beat Pisa 2-0 in a friendly at La Turbie, with Ansu Fati making his first appearance of the season after a calf injury.

AS Monaco closed out their training session at La Turbie with a 2-0 friendly win over Pisa on Saturday, giving coach Filipe Luis a chance to run the rule over several squad members ahead of the next Ligue 1 fixture. The result will offer little surprise given Monaco's current form, with the club sitting top of the table, but the exercise was less about the scoreline and more about game time for players working their way back to fitness.

Chief among them was Ansu Fati, who played the first half and picked up his first minutes of the season after a calf complaint had kept him sidelined. Filipe Luis singled out the Spanish forward's defensive work in particular, noting the effort he put in without the ball, a detail that will matter more than any attacking contribution at this early stage of his return.

For supporters at La Turbie, the session doubled as a reminder of the depth Monaco can call on as they defend their position at the summit of Ligue 1. With Fati now back among game minutes, Filipe Luis has another option to manage carefully as the fixture list thickens through the autumn.
