Darse Sud extension to add 2,500 sqm for Grand Prix build

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Port Hercule's Darse Sud is being extended opposite La Rascasse to create extra space for Grand Prix infrastructure, with completion targeted before the 2027 race.

Opposite La Rascasse, work is underway to extend the Darse Sud section of Port Hercule, adding roughly 2,500 square metres of new platform space. The project addresses a long-standing logistical squeeze faced by teams building grandstands, hospitality units and technical infrastructure in the weeks before the Monaco Grand Prix, where space around the harbour is already stretched thin by the circuit itself.

The extension will serve as a staging area not just for the Grand Prix but for other major events held around the port throughout the year. Authorities have set completion ahead of the 2027 race, giving organisers two build-up cycles, 2027 and 2028, to adjust their logistics around the new platform.

For residents and berth holders around Port Hercule, the works mean a further period of construction activity dockside, though the Principality has framed the project as a long-term fix rather than a temporary measure. Anyone with boats moored in the Darse Sud area should expect altered access and reduced manoeuvring space while the extension is carried out.
