CMB Monaco marks 50 years since opening its doors

Compagnie Monégasque de Banque opened on 1 October 1976 with thirteen staff, and the private bank now known as CMB Monaco is marking five decades in the Principality.
On 1 October 1976, a private bank called Compagnie Monégasque de Banque opened its doors in Monaco with a staff of just thirteen. The founding idea was straightforward: the Principality needed a private bank of its own, rather than relying solely on foreign institutions to manage the wealth flowing into Monte-Carlo and the wider Principality.
Fifty years on, the institution now trades as CMB Monaco and has grown considerably from that original small team. The anniversary lands at a moment when Monaco's private banking sector remains a core pillar of the local economy, alongside real estate and yachting, and long-established names like CMB carry particular weight with residents and property owners who rely on discreet, locally rooted wealth management.
For those who have banked with the institution across generations, or who work in Monaco's financial district around Boulevard des Moulins and Avenue de Grande-Bretagne, the milestone is a reminder of how much the private banking landscape here has consolidated and professionalised since the 1970s, when a handful of employees could still open a new private bank from scratch.
