China and Monaco resume economic talks after 13-year gap

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

A Chinese diplomatic delegation visited Monaco for bilateral economic and trade discussions, the first such formal exchange in more than 13 years.

A Chinese diplomatic delegation travelled to Monaco in late May for a series of meetings focused on bilateral economic and commercial cooperation, marking the first engagement of this format in over 13 years. The visit brought together Chinese diplomats, Monaco's institutional officials and local business figures for substantive talks on trade ties between the two states.

Among the key meetings was a session with Frédéric Cottalorda, Conseiller de Gouvernement-Ministre des Finances et de l'Economie, during which both sides discussed the framework for deepening economic relations. The length of the gap since the last such formal exchange underlines the significance of the renewed dialogue for Monaco's outward-facing business community.

For residents and businesses with interests in Asian markets, the resumption of structured contact at this level signals a potential opening for new commercial partnerships. Monaco's government has been broadening its network of bilateral economic relationships in recent years, and the re-engagement with China adds notable weight to that effort.
