Bomb attack victim Ermolaev conscious as investigation widens

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

A Ukrainian businessman and at least one other person are recovering from burns and shrapnel wounds after an explosive device detonated outside a Monaco residence on Monday night.

Vadim Ermolaev, a Ukrainian businessman, was photographed conscious on a stretcher as emergency services evacuated him following the explosion outside his home on Monday evening. He sustained burns and shrapnel wounds in the blast. At least one other victim is also fighting for recovery, and the full picture of casualties is still emerging as medical teams work through the night.

Monaco's investigative authorities are now leading a manhunt for the individual responsible. The detonation of an explosive device on Principality soil is an exceptionally rare event, and the case has drawn immediate attention given the profile of the primary victim and the residential nature of the location targeted.

Residents in the area are advised to expect a continued and significant police presence while the investigation is active. No further devices have been reported, but authorities are treating the situation with the highest level of urgency.
