Monaco is mobilising more than 560 personnel this weekend to manage security, traffic and public access for the 2026 Vuelta a España Grand Départ.
This weekend's Vuelta a España Grand Départ has prompted one of the Principality's largest logistical operations in recent memory, with 300 police officers, 106 firefighters and 155 volunteers deployed across Monaco to support the event. Planning began almost a year ago, with the various services of the Principality coordinating security, crowd management and road closures around the race start.
The 184 riders competing in the Grand Départ will be the visible centrepiece, but the operation running beneath the surface is substantial. Residents and property owners across the Principality should expect significant traffic restrictions and disruption to normal movement this weekend, particularly in areas along the race route and near the start village.
For those watching from Monaco, the event represents a rare opportunity to see a Grand Tour open on home ground. The Vuelta a España has not previously held its Grand Départ in the Principality, making this weekend a notable moment for the local sporting calendar alongside the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the Monte-Carlo Rally.
