Vuelta a España Launches from Monaco with Circus Tent Time Trial

Monaco hosts the Grand Départ of the Vuelta a España this Saturday, with 184 riders, a race caravan, souvenir giveaways and a circus-tent time trial route through Fontvieille.
Saturday's Vuelta a España Grand Départ brings 184 professional cyclists to Monaco for a time trial that takes in one of the more unusual course features in recent race history: a passage through the big-top circus tent in Fontvieille. The route threads through the Principality before the caravan and race action move on to Spain for the remaining stages.
For residents and visitors, the day is designed as a spectator event well beyond the racing itself. A race caravan will pass through Monaco distributing souvenir gifts, while circus-themed entertainment is planned along the course. Fontvieille, where the chapiteau sits, is the focal point for the most photogenic section of the time trial.
The Vuelta's visit follows a growing trend of Grand Tour organisers choosing Monaco as a prestige launchpad, a role the Principality has played for both the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia in previous editions. Saturday's programme is free to watch from the roadside, and spectators are advised to find positions early along the Fontvieille stretch given the narrow circuit.
