World Cup exit for AS Monaco's Camara as Senegal fall to Belgium

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara saw his 2026 World Cup campaign end in a 3-2 extra-time defeat to Belgium in the round of 16.

Lamine Camara's World Cup ended in heartbreak on Wednesday as Senegal were knocked out of the 2026 tournament by Belgium, losing 3-2 after extra time in a bruising round-of-16 tie.

The AS Monaco midfielder had been one of the more prominent African players at the tournament, but neither he nor his teammates could find a way past a resilient Belgian side in what proved to be an absorbing and ultimately draining contest.

For Monaco supporters watching from the Principality, it brings an early end to one of the more eagerly followed club connections at this World Cup. Camara will now return to pre-season preparations at La Diagonale with the rest of the squad ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign.
