Villa Paloma opens major Victor Brauner retrospective

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco launches a retrospective of surrealist Victor Brauner at Villa Paloma from 3 July 2026, bringing together more than 160 works.

Villa Paloma is hosting the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco's latest major exhibition, dedicated to Victor Brauner (1903-1966), one of the most distinctive figures in international surrealism. Opening on 3 July 2026, "Victor Brauner, L'Aventure magique" draws together more than 160 paintings, drawings and sculptures spanning the full arc of the artist's career.

The scenography has been designed by Christophe Martin, giving the show a considered spatial dimension that suits the Villa Paloma's rooms well. Brauner, Romanian-born and long associated with the Paris surrealist circle, produced a body of work that remains less widely known than its quality deserves, and this retrospective is one of the most comprehensive assembled in recent years.

For residents and visitors in Monaco this summer, the exhibition offers a serious cultural reason to spend time on the Boulevard du Jardin Exotique. The NMNM has a strong record of presenting surrealist and post-war European art in depth, and this show continues that focus with genuine ambition.
