A new inspection point for traction battery coolant levels came into effect on 21 March, reflecting the growth of electric vehicles in Monaco.
Monaco has added a new safety checkpoint to its vehicle inspection regime, targeting the cooling systems of electric and hybrid car batteries. The measure, which came into effect on 21 March 2026, requires inspectors to verify coolant levels in traction batteries during routine technical examinations.
The update reflects the rapid growth in low-emission vehicles across the Principality and addresses a safety consideration that existing inspection protocols had not fully covered. Previously, checks focused primarily on detecting visible leaks rather than monitoring coolant levels directly.
The change positions Monaco alongside other jurisdictions that are adapting their regulatory frameworks to keep pace with the shift toward electric mobility.
